Thursday 12 November 08.30-10.30 CET
Delivering the Savings and Investment Union
Roundtable with the Lithuanian and Belgian Financial Services Attachés
Description:
We will have an in-depth discussion on the state of play of the EU’s flagship Savings and Investment Union initiative, with a particular focus on the Market Integration and Supervision Package, DLT-based capital markets and the Banking Union. We will also seek to gain insight into the priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency.
Key questions:
- Savings and Investment Union (SIU): How will the Market Integration and Supervision Package (MISP) contribute in practice to more integrated EU capital markets and strengthening the EU’s competitiveness? What could be the key challenges that Member States would need to address at the potentially upcoming MISP trilogues?
- Financial Services Regulation: In the context of the “One Europe, One Market” Roadmap, initiatives such as digital finance (e.g., DLT capital markets) and the Banking Union beyond MISP are central to strengthening the EU’s financial ecosystem. What is the state of play across these areas? How could we ensure that current fragmentation will not be reproduced in DLT-based financial markets?
- Looking Ahead: What could be the possible financial services priorities for the Lithuanian Presidency? What are the key objectives policymakers must get right in the next one to three years to ensure the long-term success of the SIU and the EU’s investability?
