CADA: Inside the European Parliament's Plans
We are pleased to invite you to register your interest in attending our in-person roundtable on the Cloud and AI Development Act (CADA) on Tuesday 1 December from 16:30 to 18:30 CET, with Diego Solier MEP (ECR, Spain), CADA rapporteur in the European Parliament’s ITRE Committee. We also hope to be joined by Reinier van Lanschot MEP (Greens, Netherlands), co-rapporteur from the IMCO Committee.
As the European Parliament begins to shape its position on CADA, some difficult questions are emerging over how to strengthen Europe’s cloud and AI capabilities while balancing technological sovereignty with openness and competition.
With the joint draft report due to be presented in Parliament, the roundtable will offer an early opportunity to discuss the rapporteurs’ proposals and the main political questions ahead of the amendment and negotiation stages.
We will discuss:
- Where are the main political dividing lines emerging in the European Parliament, and what are likely to be the priorities for the two lead committees?
- How far should the EU go in strengthening sovereignty requirements for cloud and AI services, and what role should trusted third-country providers play?
- How should public procurement support European cloud and AI providers, and should sovereignty requirements extend to critical private-sector operators?
- What more could CADA do to accelerate investment in European data centres, computing capacity and AI innovation?
